FACE PREPARATION

Use a  moisturizer under your SunCat Mineral Makeup products.  Apply your
moisturizer to a clean damp face and allow it to absorb into your skin before
applying your SunCat Minerals.  SunMoist,  SunDrench and SunQuench are
excellent all natural moisturizers and can be used under your SunCat Mineral
products.  Mineral makeup can also be applied to a clean bare face see what works
best for you.

Exfoliation is a very important step in healthy skin and flawless mineral makeup
application.  Exfoliation removes the dead skin layers and gives your face a smooth
finish that allows the minerals to warm with your skin.  This is especially important
as we get older since our skin cells don't rejuvenate as quickly.

If you have dead skin cells on your face mineral products  will just sit on your skin
giving your face a shiny appearance.  Dead skin cells also don't allow moisturizer
and skin care products to be effective since they form a barrier on the skin.
Removing these dead skin cells allows your skin to breathe and allow your products
to perform as they were intended.

For gentle daily exfoliation and to keep good circulation in the skin use a 100%
cotton wash cloth, the inexpensive thin ones work the best.  Use the cloths with
your facial cleanser or with water after you have cleansed your face.  Use a
circular motion to help remove the dead skin cells.  SunPolish is a wonderful natural
daily exfolating product.
More intense exfoliation should be done 1-3 times a
week depending on your skin type.  SunSmooth is a wonderful all natural exfoliant.
SunCat masks also provide exfoliation.  These products can be found on the
Skin
Care page.

If you use a primer make sure it is a primer made for mineral makeup.
SunPrime and SunCorrect are formulated to be used under mineral makeup.
Primers were originally developed for liquid foundation to keep them from being
absorbed into the skin and are silicone based which forms a barrier on the skin.
This barrier does not allow mineral makeup to warm with the skin and should not be
used with mineral makeup.

BRUSHES

Brushes are very important in the application and finish of mineral makeup.
Baby kabuki brushes have dense compact bristles that hold onto the minerals
allowing them to be buffed evenly into the skin reducing the look of pores.  The
baby kabuki brush provides precision and even coverage especially around the nose
and eye area where the larger brushes can't reach.  I carry both premium natural
hair brushes and premium synthetic vegan approved brushes.  Both baby kabuki
brushes are the same premium quality brush and the hair choice is a personal
preference.

Different brush types will give you different coverage as well as different
finishes to mineral makeup.  Brushes with full compact dense bristles such as the
baby kabuki brush give you even coverage.  The baby kabuki brushes hold onto the
minerals allowing them to be buffed into the skin reducing the look of pores, fine
lines and wrinkles and give the skin a natural flawless finish.  Brushes with longer
fluffier bristles apply a light dusting of minerals and are best for finishing veils
and all over face colors.  If you use a fluffy style brush to apply mineral foundation
you may get a shiny look since the minerals are not being buffed into the skin.

If you are not happy with the application of your minerals try a different
style of brush.   Brushes make all the difference in the application and finish of
mineral makeup.

One of the best things you can do for your brushes is to wash them
regularly
.  Wash them when they are first purchased and wash them on a
regular basis
.  Wipe brushes on a clean dry towel after every use to help maintain
them between washes.  Washing your brushes removes old makeup, dirt, bacteria,
oils and dead skin cells which build up on the brushes making them scratchy.  This is
especially important if you have sensitive skin or are prone to breakouts.  Keeping
your brushes clean will keep them soft, lush and bacteria free.

Dirty brushes will change the color of the products when applied to the skin.
Keeping your brushes clean keeps the true color of your makeup products.

Wash your brushes at least once a week.  For best results use your facial
cleanser or a liquid Castile soap.  Avoid washing your brushes with shampoo which
can cause skin irritation.  Wet the bristles  before applying the cleanser and wash
under warm running water.  Keep the bristles pointing down when washing your
brushes.  Check your brush to make sure all the buildup has been removed.  If
needed wash them again.  Wash the lids you use to apply your minerals at least once
a week when you wash your brushes.  Make sure the lids are dry before putting
them back on the jars.

After your brushes have been washed, squeeze out the excess water with a paper
towel.  Reshape the brush and lay it flat on its side on a paper towel or a clean
towel to dry.  Let the brushes dry completely before using.  You can also dry them
using a hair dryer on a low setting.

Keeping your brushes clean will provide you with years of flawless mineral makeup
application.

MINERAL MAKEUP APPLICATION

SunCat Natural Mineral Makeup products are quick and easy to apply and will stay
on all day.
You only need a very small amount of SunCat all natural minerals
to achieve a flawless finish
.

Apply the minerals to a clean moisturized face.  Make sure your moisturizer has
completely absorbed into the skin before applying the minerals.  You can also apply
the minerals on a clean bare face see what works best for you.

To apply the minerals you swirl the minerals into the brush, tap off the excess and
buff the minerals into the skin.  For foundation and veils start with an amount the
size of the end of a pencil eraser.  For concealer, blush, bronzer, contour,
eyeshadow, and liners start with an amount the size of a straight pin head.  SunCat
products are self adjusting and will warm with the skin.  Allow a few seconds for
the all natural minerals to warm with your skin.

For a soft focus finish add a SunCat Finishing Veil.  I recommend using finishing
veils over all mineral makeup.  Choose the SunCat Finishing Veil with the finish you
prefer.

Place your brush into the minerals and using the lid or small saucer swirl the
minerals into the brush.
Tap the brush on the edge of the lid or small saucer to release the excess
minerals.  You don't want to use a fully loaded brush.
Using the minerals left inside the brush lightly buff the minerals into your skin.
Start on the outside perimeter of the face and work inward.
Return any left over minerals to the jar for reuse.

Allow the pure all natural minerals to warm with your skin.  If you need more coverage repeat the process.  SunCat Minerals have buildable coverage so you can
apply as many light applications as you need for the coverage and color you desire.

MINERAL MAKEUP TIPS

When applying makeup avoid using overhead lighting since overhead lighting
casts shadows on the face causing you to apply too much product.  For the
most natural look when applying makeup use a natural daylight lamp that shines
on your face or sit in front of a window so the natural light shines onto your
face.  Avoid using incandescent light as it produces a yellow cast.
Conceal problem areas with a smaller brush.  Use either your foundation or
a concealer formula.
Use a concealer brush to apply your foundation around your nose and eye
area where your larger brushes can't reach.
To apply concealer press the formula into the skin then blend lightly.  Apply
the concealer after your foundation for best results.
Conceal and neutralize red areas of your face  with the SunRise concealer.
SunRise also makes a wonderful eyeshadow primer giving you that "rested
look" to your eyes.
If you want more coverage from your foundation add a small amount of
concealer in the lid with your foundation.
If you want sheerer coverage from your foundation add a small amount of
finishing veil in the lid with your foundation.
Reduce the look of large pores by using a baby kabuki brush to apply your
SunCat foundation.  The kabuki style brushes have dense compact bristles,
especially the baby kabuki, which buffs the minerals evenly into the skin.  If
you still notice your pores try using a concealer brush to blend the foundation
into those areas.  SunCat Primers and Finishing Veils will also help reduce the
look of pores on the skin.
Contour your face using SunBronze, SunShape or a darker SunShine
foundation shade.   Contouring will bring dimension to your face and keep your
face from looking flat.  To apply make the "fish face" by sucking in your
cheeks and puckering your lips.  Apply the contour shade in the hollows of your
cheeks.  You can also contour your jawline, chin, nose and forehead.
To apply cheek color smile and apply the color to the apples of your cheeks.
For a uniform look to the face use your cheek color and sweep it over your
eyes this brightens your eye area and gives your face a uniform look.
Reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles by using a lighter color on those
areas.  Using a lighter color brings the area forward making them less
noticeable.
Bring dimension to your eyes by applying a lighter color on the lid, a darker
color in the crease and a highlighting color on the brow bone.
Define your eyes and make them look more open.  When you line the eyes
you define them and make them look more open.  Wet your liner brush before
applying your mineral liner or you can use your liner brush dry depending on
the brush and the look you want.  Leave your eyes open when applying liner.
When you get to the outside corner of your upper lid don't follow your eye
down instead bring the line out and up slightly.  This will make your eyes look
more open.
Highlight your face to give your face dimension.  Colors to try are
SunRadiance, SunPearl and SunBright.  Highlight the outer perimeter of your
face, the center of your forehead, the center of your nose and chin, your
cheekbones and browbones, the inside corner of your eyes, and underneath
your lower lashes.
Brighten up your eyes by applying SunRadiance, SunBright, SunPearl or
SunSnow to the inside corners of your eyes in a v shape and to the inside
corners of your nose by your eyes.
Finish your flawless look with a SunCat finishing veil.  Using a finishing veil
morphs the minerals into the skin giving your face a finished polished look and
brings a soft focus air brushed look to the  skin.  Choose from many different
SunCat Veils for the finish you prefer.

Problem Resolution Tips

Pores and lines are more noticeable after applying mineral foundation.
Make sure your face is properly cleansed, exfoliated and moisturized and
your moisturizer has completely absorbed into the skin.  Use a baby kabuki
brush to apply your foundation then use a concealer brush on the areas you
notice pores and wrinkles especially on the nose, chin, and around the eye
area.  Use less foundation.  Try using a darker shade of foundation if the color
you are using is too light pores and wrinkles will be more noticeable.
Face looks shiny after applying mineral makeup products.  Make sure your
face is properly exfoliated,  applying minerals over dead skin cells gives you a
shiny look and can also cause your face to look scaly.  Use a baby kabuki brush
to apply your foundation.  Use a moisturizer and make sure it has completely
absorbed into the skin before applying the minerals.  Use a finishing veil with a
soft focus to help reduce shine.  Use less foundation and blush.
Under eye area looks dry after applying mineral concealer.  Make sure
your eye area is moisturized and your moisturizer has absorbed into the skin
before applying your mineral concealer.  Use a flat concealer brush to apply
concealer and.  Apply concealer after your mineral foundation.
Foundation looks thick or heavy after applying.  Make sure your
moisturizer has completely absorbed into the skin before applying your
mineral foundation.  Use less foundation.  Use a baby kabuki brush to apply
foundation.
Wipe your brushes on a clean towel daily after each use to keep them
clean between weekly washes.  This will help correct many mineral makeup
application problems including the ones listed above.

BLENDING COLORS OF SUNCAT MINERAL MAKEUP

You can blend all of your SunCat Natural Mineral Makeup products with each other
since everything is formulated to work together.  All the minerals can be used
anywhere on the face including your eyes and lips.  Since all SunCat Minerals can be
used anywhere you can use a eyeshadow as a blush and lip color, etc.

Take a small amount of each color using a small spatula, the tip of a small knife or
spoon and place the minerals into the lid or a small saucer.  You can also dip your
brush into each color and swirl the minerals together in the lid and apply as usual.
This way you are not changing the original color of the products.  You can also apply
one color over the other and they will bend effortlessly.

Blend different colors together to create your own custom look.  Playing with
makeup is fun!

NATURAL BEAUTY TIPS

I follow an all natural beauty regime and have eliminated several chemicals from
my beauty and hair care routine.  I have listed a few things that may help you do
the same.

As I mentioned exfoliation is an important step in keeping your skin healthy.  As we
age our skin doesn't renew itself like it did when we were younger.  By removing
the dead skin cells you reveal fresh healthy skin.  Removing these dead skin cells
lets your face breathe and your products can be utilized by your skin instead of
just sitting on top.

When you have a buildup of dead skin cells your face feels rough, looks dull and
can be dry and flakey.  Exfoliation can be done my mechanical or chemical means.  I
have tried them both and prefer the all natural mechanical exfoliation.  See the
Skin Care Page of the website for my all natural exfoliants and masks.

If you are noticing that your face and body is getting dry and you are seeing
white flakes on your face and body
, make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids
and you are getting enough Omega 3's in your diet.  Omega 3's are essential for
the health of our body and our skin.  Flax Seed Oil, Fish Oil and Extra Virgin Olive
Oil are all wonderful supplements.  Many women especially those on diets cut fats
from their daily consumption which causes the skin to dry out.  Eating the good fats
keeps our bodies functioning properly and our skin naturally moisturized.

Using natural products and eliminating harmful chemicals from our health and
beauty regime feels good and is good for us and our environment.  I have listed a
few all natural products that you can use on your face and body and you probably
already have them in your kitchen.

Honey can be used on the face after cleansing and added to facial masks.
Honey has many benefits for the skin and is a natural humectant and also
contains natural antibacterial properties.  If you have problem skin and are
prone to breakouts try applying honey directly to those areas.  Leave the
honey on for a few minutes then rinse.

Green Tea  is wonderful for the body and skin.  Brew up some organic green
tea and place it into spray bottle diluted with water and keep refrigerated.
Mist your face then apply your natural moisturizer while the skin is still damp.
You can also mist your body then apply your body lotion while your skin is still
damp.  If desired add some organic aloe vera gel to the mix.  Drinking organic
green tea as many health benefits.

Oatmeal can be used in facial masks, face scrubs and body scrubs.  Oatmeal
can be used as an exfolaint and is very soothing.  Use a coffee grinder or food
processor to grind it up to the consistency you like.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil can be used on your face and body as a moisturizer
and used in face masks and body scrubs.  If you want a chemical free olive oil
make sure you use only Extra Virgin Olive Oil as the subsequent pressings of
olive oil have added chemicals to extract more oil from the olives.  One
Tablespoon of EVOO taken internally daily will help moisturize the skin and
hair along with providing Omega 3's.

Baking Soda can be used as a face and body exfoliant and to remove buildup
in your hair from hairspray and styling products.  Add a small amount of baking
soda in the palm of your hand and add your facial, body or hair cleanser.  You
can also make a paste by adding water and use it alone on your face and body.

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar can be used as a facial toner and hair rinse.
Make sure you use pure apple cider vinegar from the health food store and
not the apple flavored vinegar from the grocery store.  Make sure you dilute
the apple cider vinegar before using it on your face or in your hair.  A good
place to start is with 1/2 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in 2 ounces of water
for facial use and 1 tablespoon in 2 cups of water as a hair rinse.  Drinking
organic apple cider vinegar has many health benefits.  Add 1 teaspoon of
organic apple cider vinegar to a cup of hot water and add honey to taste.

Aloe Vera Gel can be used as a face, body and hair and is a wonderful all
natural moisturizer.  The dietary supplement aloe vera gel contains 99.9%
pure aloe vera gel and does not contain water or other chemicals that are
found in the cosmetic aloe vera gel.  This type of aloe vera gel needs to be
stored in the fridge.  You can keep smaller amounts in small bottles for
everyday use and leave them at room temperature.  Mix 50/50 with filtered
water and use as a facial, hair and body mist.  You can also use the aloe vera
gel as is on the face and body as well as adding in a few drops of your favorite
oil.  If you prefer the cosmetic aloe vera gel make sure you buy the clear gel.
